"A Billings man who served a year in Iraq as an infantry medic has filed for the open seat in House District 56.

"Mike Creeden is a member of the Montana National Guard. He returned to Montana on Veterans Day after duty in Iraq with the 163rd Infantry Battalion.

"Creeden is the Democratic candidate for the seat being vacated by Rep. Don Roberts, R-Billings. Three Republicans are vying for the party’s nomination in the June 6 primary. Weldon Birdwell, Ernie Dutton and Kassidy Olson are on the GOP ballot. The winner will face Creeden in November.

"Creeden said he will focus on veterans’ issues. As a medic and EMT throughout his military career, Creeden said he has dealt with excellent facilities and knows that they are only as good as the physicians who occupy them.

"Creeden, 28, is employed as a legal assistant. He graduated from Hardin High School and Montana State University-Billings with a degree in education, graduating magna cum laude. This is his first attempt at political office."
